Why You Can’t Ignore Social Media

It’s kind of surprising to me that most of the small business owners I talk to still view ‘social media‘ as a place to share funny cat videos and photos of your lunch. I understand that most of these people are too busy running their business to use social media on a personal level, but there’s really no excuse anymore, for any business owner to ignore the benefits these tools ban bring to your business.

So for anyone on the fence, here’s just a few ways we use social media to help our Clients’ businesses…

Engaging With Existing Customers

So many ways to stay connected with your customers so they remember you when it’s time to buy again. There’s plenty of ways you can do this, from providing basic customer support, offering how-tos for your products, tips for getting more value from your products or services, recommending (upselling?) additional related products/services. Every time you add value like this, you’re turning your customers into fans…

Referral Word-of-Mouth Marketing

And when you offer those fans the means to submit feedback and suggestions… good and bad… and allow people to recommend your products and services, share your website, leave reviews etc, you gain enormous credibility in the eyes of your potential customers. It’s oneΒ  thing to have a website telling people you and your products are great, but it means so much more when it comes from a happy customer.

Prospecting For New Customers

In fact, many potential customers would rather visit your social media profiles than your website to get a feel for the real you. The interactive nature of a social profile lets these people get a sense of who you are and how you interact with your customers/clients, which can come across as more genuine than a typical ‘salesy’ website.

Repeat Business & Special Offers

And once your customers connect with you via these platforms, you then have the ability to re-engage them any time you like. It can be simple news style update, some sort of value add that they’ll benefit from as a customer, or you can even present them with a special offer or giveaway, to quite literally generate sales on demand.

So even if you’re interested in using social media personally, I hope you can see the value of putting it to work for your business. The good news is, it doesn’t need to be overly complicated or time consuming. Most businesses will only need 1-3 accounts to reach the vast majority of their potential market, and once those are set up, a small regular effort will quickly grow a responsive audience.
